Ed was born and raised in northern Georgia, and spent his teenage years in and around Atlanta. His father was a commercial artist, specializing in drawing and painting of theater signs and advertising. Ed accompanied his father on the theater and sign "circuit" across the south. He learned to paint from his father as a young boy, having inherited his father's artistic talents.
In 1956, at the age of 18, Ed took a trip west to Colorado. He so enjoyed the western United States that he never went home again. He spent years in the oil and mining business, traveling extensively in the western United States. His art features many of the images captured during this period. He developed a deep appreciation and love for the people and culture of the southwestern United States, after spending time in Arizona, California, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
Because of his early experiences with his father, Ed loves bright colors and considers himself a "colorist". The vivid, bold colors in his art are a natural outgrowth of his experience with the theater art of his father. His art also reflects his fascination with life, and his true enjoyment of the vast spaces and many colors found in the Western United States. In addition to his paintings and prints, Ed has sketched in pen and ink many old mining and historic sites.
It is Ed’s hope that this art will convey to you the viewer, his feeling and enjoyment of his adopted region of the country.
